WHO I AM

I’m Amit Suri, and ‘irustima’ is my creative alter ego, a playful reflection of ‘amitsuri’.

With an engineering and a business management background, I co-founded the following two ventures,

both of which fulfil my professional pursuits:

– Seek Red, a Communication Design Studio

– TWAGAA, a Creative Publishing House.

Going forward, I intend to engage a broader audience through both social media and offline platforms.

I began my education at Oak Grove School, Mussoorie, a boarding school nestled in the serene hills of Jharipani in the majestic Great Himalayas. For my higher secondary schooling, I attended Kendriya Vidyalaya Fort William, Kolkata. After completing my engineering degree at Marine Engineering College, Kolkata, I embarked on an exciting career in the Merchant Navy. However, after a few years, I decided to take a break and pursue post-graduation in Business Management at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Throughout my professional journey, I have had the privilege of working with excellent companies, some of which I landed thanks to being at the right place at the right time, while others required sheer determination and hard work.

My first job was a summer stint in 1993 when a good friend and I embarked on a venture to sell video game consoles door-to-door. Enduring the scorching heat and sweat of Indian summers, we only managed to sell one console— which my friend bought for himself. This experience taught me the challenges of door-to-door selling and led me to realize that my true calling lay not in a career in Sales, prompting me to seek expertise in a different field.

The Merchant Navy became my second job, thanks to campus placement at my engineering school. It opened doors to a world of travel, unique experiences, invaluable life lessons, and connections with people from across the globe. I spent seven years sailing the oceans, with intermittent solo explorations in port cities around the world. The sea’s salty air broadened my perspective and prompted significant adjustments to my beliefs. Besides enriching my mind and soul, my naval career also provided a financial foundation that prepared me for future risks. However, after seven years, the allure of shore life and a desire for management studies led me to bid farewell to the Navy.

Following my management studies, I embarked on a career as a Systems Consultant, where my responsibilities encompassed systems planning and design, technology management, change management, training, and other typical corporate endeavors. However, after three years in this role, my youthful restlessness kicked in, and I yearned to start something of my own. My boss, whom I deeply admire for his empathy and honesty, advised me to return without hesitation if my aspirations didn’t materialize. Over a decade has passed since then, and I’ve never had to consider his generous offer.

In 2012, I joined Seek Red, a company that I co-founded with my wife in 2007. Seek Red specializes in Communication Design solutions for Films, Branding, and Graphic Design. In 2014, we expanded our services to include Software Development & Consultancy, where we provide technology solutions for websites and business process software.

During the start of the 2020 lockdown, I found myself with ample time to explore my passion for art and book publishing. This led to the establishment of my latest venture, TWAGAA. Over the past few years, we have collaborated with numerous authors, and have been publishing, printing, and distributing books worldwide.

Apart from my professional endeavours, I have always been an avid reader and writer. I started blogging in 2009, but as the demands of starting a new business and the arrival of my son in 2010 took centre stage, I had to put blogging on hold. Two years later, my daughter arrived, and my business flourished, extending the break from blogging. However, during the 2020 lockdown, the urge to write resurfaced, and I happily returned to the keyboard. Along the way, I managed to publish a few books between 2009 and 2021, which you can find on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Amit-Suri/e/B084WPQFWH.
